I recently read an article by Thich Nhat Hanh and this message resonated with me: We all possess unique strengths that hold the potential to make a positive impact. Hanh emphasized that it's our responsibility to be self-aware, identify these strengths, and cultivate them for the greater good.
This aligns with the age-old adage "Don't waste your God-given talent." Finding what you love and loving what you do often stems from this very principle - we naturally gravitate towards activities where our strengths shine.
This realization highlights a common thread woven through many philosophies and religions: the pursuit of self-discovery and using our talents to contribute meaningfully. Though the paths may differ, the destination seems to be the same.
Lots to contemplate. So I broke it down and wrote a poem.

Goal:
I will
So thoroughly understand
The gifts, skills and traits
With which I’ve been graced
Through genes, environment, development, fate
That,
As is our role,
I can share them with the world
Help her evolve,
Grow.

This is poem is such beautiful, helpful reclaiming of the notion of “goal.” Thich Nat Hanh’s work is such a well for me to draw from—especially in these fraught times in the world. This poem also reminds me of Frederick Buechner’s understanding of vocation: “where our deep gladness meets the world's deep need.”
And I think gift discovery, unwrapping and giving away depends so much on community, good voices, room to grow 🤍
