We’ve all heard the phrase “nothing lasts forever” and we know it’s absolutely true. I was recently reading Shy Guy Meets The Buddha and gave a bit of thought to the Buddhist teaching of impermanence (anicca). It’s a concept all philosophies and religions address in one way or another… coveting, clinging, grasping, refusing to learn, ashes to ashes… so many examples.
Life is a perpetual series of letting go. Letting go of attachment to things, moments, people, roles. Letting go of fear, judgment of self and others. Letting go of met and unmet expectations.
We have to continually let go in order to evolve, to learn more and to catch a glimpse of the Divine in ourselves, in everyone else, in every thing.
Learning to let go is tough for some of us. During a particularly tumultuous time in my life, I had the words “Practice Letting Go” tattooed on my inner wrist as an ever-available reminder. I hope your soul is less stubborn than mine and you don’t need that level of encouragement; but if you do, it’s highly effective!
Let Go. Begin Again. Repeat.
Loosen your grip
on things that you love
and things you think of
as burdens.
Let go.
Cling to none of it.
Let each thing be
what, when
and where it is
like every leaf
on every tree.
No demand.
Each accepted
as it is
where it’s meant to be.
When autumn winds blow
they don’t cling
they let go
moving with grace
in the flow
toward the future.
Listen to me read “Let Go. Begin Again. Repeat.” here ☝🏼
I changed a line after recording. Did you find it?
Let me know in the comments!
This is so true!
Thanks for dropping by my “frozen in place” which led me here. Seems like we have a lot in common. Themes at least. If you have. Moment, will you hVe a peek at this. I hope it strikes a chord.
