Happy Monday, Substack Friends,
I hope your weekend was filled with whatever adds to your joy and contentment. Mine definitely was! I got to spend time with grandsons. How can that not be joyful? To fill you in, I’m 64 and lucky to hang out with grandchildren somewhat regularly. Because I want to be actively involved in their lives and I’ve learned that nothing keeps the body moving better than moving the body, every day I walk, do yoga and/or water aerobics. My joints thank me, my muscles are strong, my balance is steady and I can kind of keep up with the kids. (Although they know I no longer have “running knees” :-))
When I have the 18-month old, I try to imitate his physical antics, providing one of the best workouts possible. He thinks it’s hilarious. And so do I. This poem is the result of a couple days together - two of the happiest recent days, for sure.
Glee
I hung out with an 18-month old
Re-remembered joie de vivre
We lay on the floor
Rolled toward the door
Saw the sky Heard the birds Smelled the sea
We giggled, smiled, Eyed each other seriously
As I learned again, simply to be
Happy.
If you see a little kid and it’s not too weird, try to imitate his every move. I guarantee, you’ll giggle. And if you’re brave enough, share your experience here with me. I wanna giggle with you, too!
Have a great week, friends!
Loved this one. I only got my kids quite late in life. I'm 50 and my kids are 10 & 7. They sure do keep me young. I'm dancing every day, play football (soccer) regularly, ride bikes (but I'm Dutch, so that's not so special).
Before they arrived, we had friends with kids. I remember a dinner one day, and their son, then about 3, showed me how to do the gymnastics he learned at his daycare. We both lay on our bellies, holding our ankles with our hands. It was fun.
Enjoy the grandsons as much as you can.
So sweet! Love it. Thank you for sharing.
