No yogurt,
I settled for cottage cheese.
Missed the tang, but texture proved
a nice surprise.
The banana, speckled
past your palate,
was my self-imposed, no waste,
sweet responsibility.
Then there was the jam
from plums, just shy of
seepy, scorched a bit
in the Tuesday simmering.
Oh, cracked latte bowl,
you hold the key.

Have you noticed, lately, wonder in the everyday? Have you taken a moment recognize what actually brings you joy? Rarely is it accolade or vitriol, being proven right or a feeling as if you won the fight. Nearly always it’s the mundane, viewed and acknowledged through clear lenses, that adds goodness to the day. Perhaps we should move away from trying to sway one another and choose to be happy.

I like these lines, Kim:
"Missed the tang, but texture proved
a nice surprise."
It's like that split second change and shift in perception from mild disappointment to wonder and desire for more...sort of a happy coincidence.
I think of one seemingly mundane experience I keep having is watching the Ring-billed Gulls fly around on my commutes to and from work. The Ring-billed Gull is whant many would simply call a 'seagull' as they are quite common and widespread globally.
But watching them simply glide and dive on the wind is quite amazing. The subtle shift in their wing or tail will send them off into a completely different and unexpected direction than I would expect. That has caused me to wonder in amazement as something I have too often taken for granted in the past.
The banana, speckled
past your palate,
was my self-imposed, no waste,
sweet responsibility.

I love the way a good poem, always reveals the heart of the poet. 💛🍌
